Welcome to the web-site of St. John!
St. John is a church numbering about 100 in worship each week. Our mission is to proclaim the Word of God, the Bible, so that more people will come to know the love and mercy of God in Christ and so that those who already know it will grow stronger in faith and Christian living.
We hope you enjoy your visit at our site.

We believe and teach:

...that the Bible is the Word of God, which teaches:

...that humanity was created holy by the one true God — Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

...that all people have sinned and earned God’s eternal punishment in hell

... that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son to take our place under God’s holy law

...that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, lived and died for us, earning our forgiveness and eternal life

...that Jesus rose from death on Easter to declare all people forgiven

...that God sends his Holy Spirit by Word and Sacrament to move us to believe this good news

...that we receive God’s forgiveness and eternal life by faith, a pure gift from God

...that faith moves us in joy to thank and glorify God by ever holier living in love to him and to all the people of this world

Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

St. John is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), which has its head office in Milwaukee, WI. The WELS was organized in 1850.

WELS logoThe WELS is the third largest Lutheran body in America. It has over 400,000 members in about 1,200 churches throughout the United States. It also has missions in many locations around the world.

The WELS tries to maintain purity of doctrine based only on the Bible, proclaiming both Law and Gospel. It believes the larger Lutheran bodies have not remained orthodox. The WELS also seeks to avoid the spirit of legalism that has plagued some of the smaller Lutheran bodies. The WELS is in fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS).

There are six WELS churches in Door County. See the LINKS page for more information on these sister churches.
